Sulphuric acid, with the chemical formula H₂SO₄, is a dense, oily, colorless to slightly yellow liquid that is highly corrosive and soluble in water. It is one of the most widely used industrial chemicals globally, essential in numerous applications across sectors. Commonly found in battery acid, fertilizers, detergents, mineral processing, and chemical synthesis, sulphuric acid plays a vital role in modern manufacturing. It is especially crucial in the production of phosphate fertilizers, where it reacts with phosphate rock. Despite its utility, sulphuric acid must be handled with extreme caution due to its highly exothermic reaction with water and strong corrosive nature, which can cause severe burns on contact with skin or organic materials.

Manufacturing Process
Sulphuric acid is predominantly manufactured using the Contact Process. The process begins with the combustion of sulfur or sulfide ores to form sulfur dioxide (SO₂). This gas is then oxidized to sulfur trioxide (SO₃) in the presence of a vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) catalyst at high temperatures. The SO₃ is subsequently absorbed in concentrated sulphuric acid to form oleum (H₂S₂O₇), which is finally diluted with water to produce sulphuric acid of the desired concentration. This method is favored for its efficiency, high purity output, and scalability, making it the standard in large-scale production facilities worldwide.

Paint Industry, Detergent production
Sulfuric acid has a broad range of applications, involving pigments, dyes, drugs, inorganic salts and
acids. It is also used in production of detergents. It effectively draws out condensation and moisture from
a diverse range of substances.

Agriculture Industry
It is used in the production of fertilizers. Phosphoric acid that contains in super phosphate fertilizer is
produced from the reaction of sulphuric acid with phosphate rock. Ammonia, in the form of gas, is
reacted with sulphuric acid to produce ammonium sulphate fertilizer and easily absorbed by plant roots.

Wastewater Treatment Industry
For wastewater treatment, sulphuric acid is used to remove impurities from various substances.
Sulphuric acid is used to neutralize the water that contaminates from basic substance and also use to
break emulsions. It also used in drinking water treatment to create an improved taste and remove
impurities
